Kameron's Wish to Visit Rehabilitated Sea Animals

Twelve-year-old Kameron wished to go to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium because of his interest in their rehabilitation program. Kameron was fascinated by the work that they do with sick or injured marine animals and he felt a special connection to them.

“For a year after Kameron had his amputation on his leg, he couldn’t look at his scar, couldn’t look at his leg at all. He’s always putting his socks on, always looking up, always had to wear pants,” said wish dad Don. Kameron’s amputation came after his battle with osteosarcoma.

A turning point was a movie about a dolphin with a prosthetic fin. The same company that manufactured Kameron's prosthetic also makes prosthetics for marine animals like the ones at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. He began to take pride in all that he overcame.

Kameron and his family traveled to the aquarium this month, excited to meet some of the marine animals that live there or are being rehabilitated before their release into the wild. It was a unique behind-the-scenes experience that had an impact.

My kids will definitely remember this for a lifetime…It’ll definitely be something they tell their kids, I’m sure.
