Gabe's Wish to go to Hawaii

Nine-year-old Gabe has a kidney disorder called Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.

“Suddenly, when he was around four, he had some really scary symptoms. They ran some tests and determined that he had an ultra-rare immune disorder that affects his kidneys,” explains his mom, Sarah. “He is immunocompromised while he is on therapy for that.”

Gabe wished to go to Hawaii to see volcanos, attend a luau, and see sea life.

A big fan of cheeseburgers, Gabe celebrated his wish party at Red Robin in Augusta. The staff went all-out for Gabe and he got his own uniform and was able to flip some burgers in the kitchen to get a behind-the-scenes look.

The party that they put on took my breath away.

Gabe and family got to do everything he hoped they could on the trip and more! It was the first flight he and his sister went on and once in Hawaii, they were ready to explore.

“The beaches were incredibly amazing, the water was warm and crystal clear, the culture there was really nice…the food was great. I loved the cheeseburgers there!” says Gabe.

Gabe wants to be sure every kid who could qualify for a wish gets to have an experience like he had.

“If you hear this and your kid {may qualify for a wish], I would definitely recommend Make-A-Wish. They were very nice people and they help a lot of people. And they can help people when they are down, it can lift them up and help their lives feel normal,” explains Gabe.
