On September 29, 2019, 7-year-old Penelope’s parents were given news no parent ever wants to hear - they were told she had T Cell Leukemia. She had a mass in her chest and started chemo right away. Although the mass went away quickly, she had to be put on a breathing tube due to complications with her treatment, and also started dialysis. This was followed by an infection from one of her IVs that caused her to spend almost a month in the hospital. She had a PICC line, a power wand and a few IVs before she finally got her port in. Penelope has had a lot of chemo, LP's and some radiation, but she is now in remission and has finally started maintenance!

"Penelope is a sweet and very loving 7-year-old," Jessica, Penelope's mother, shares. "She is always polite to everyone and wants to be a nurse when she gets older to work at the hospital with kids that have cancer like her. "Penelope is the bravest, strongest and sweetest girl I know - she is a fighter." She loves JoJo Siwa, the song "Roar" by Katy Perry, Barbie and playing chef with her kitchen.

When Penelope found out she was going to have a wish granted, she was so excited! She eventually decided to wish for an online shopping spree, which was granted in December 2020. The day her wish was granted, Penelope couldn't have been happier. "The smile on her face when she saw all those wrapped presents was priceless," Jessica recalls. "She had a blast picking out what she wanted and was so excited to receive it, open everything and pick out where she wanted it in her room." Her favorite shopping spree items are her laptop, play kitchen and Barbie house, all of which have provided her with endless hours of fun and entertainment.

Penelope's family credits her wish for giving her hope and strength through one of the toughest battles she'll ever face. "The wish experience has meant the world to her and our family in a time of need," Jessica says. "It gave her hope and let her know that wishes do come true when things are going bad."
