"He has had the worst year and getting it now, especially when we are all stuck at home and need new things to do, it's really nice to get everything now,” said Gabbie Alexander, Forest’s mother.

Dozens of wishes are now postponed due to the public and medical concerns of COVID-19. Amid all the uncertainty and fear, Make-A-Wish Iowa is launching a campaign to spread hope and joy.

The gala allows participants to bid on items and it usually raises tens of thousands of dollars for the group. Konig says she is optimistic donations will still be strong even though people won't have an in-person event to go to.

"We're hoping for the best," said Konig.
