Britton's wish to have a camper
When Britton was a baby, we knew that something wasn't right with his liver. through multiple tests, doctors and very scary times, we finally figured out he had an extremely rare genetic liver disease called LAL-D when he was four years old. Britton's liver lacks certain enzymes to properly metabolize certain fats and without any treatment, he could have been due for a liver transplant or gone into liver failure in his teenage years.
We give thanks to God that the same week he was diagnosed, the FDA approved a drug to treat this very disease. Before we knew it, he was having a port implanted in his chest so he could receive the drug intravenously on a biweekly basis. Britton will have this drug therapy for the rest of his life. He has been at it for about five years now, and his liver levels are all great. It is an inconvenience, but his doctor and nurse are both great.
Britton is now almost 10. When we moved to Iowa in 2017, it was recommended that we look into Make-A-Wish. Britton was approved and started his wish journey two years ago. His original wish was to go to LEGOland. We were all set to go, but then COVID-19 hit and changed our plans. Britton soon began talking and dreaming about a Mario themed camper of his very own. His wish was able to be changed, and today, the perfect wish is sitting in our driveway. He loves the Mario theme that our wish grantors put extra love into creating, and his little brothers were just as excited, too!
We are so thankful that when Britton looks back on his childhood, he will remember how special this camper is and how many great memories we will have using it!
