Jolly Holiday Lights Closes Due to Unprecedented Windstorm on  Wednesday, December 15, 2021

The fundraiser raising money for children with critical illnesses in Iowa will close due to safety concerns.

Altoona, IA On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, Make-A-Wish® Iowa made the careful decision to close its Jolly Holiday Lights event to the public due to the serve weather. Jolly Holiday Lights is Make-A-Wish Iowa’s largest fundraiser, last year it granted a record-breaking 90 life-changing wishes with over 30,000 cars touring the light displays.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to close Jolly Holiday Lights on Wednesday, December 15, as our highest priority is the safety of our supporters,” stated Make-A-Wish Iowa President and CEO, Sara Kurovski. “However, we hope this storm will not leave a lasting impact on our fundraising goals. Currently, there are over 350 Iowa kids waiting for their wish, every car through the lights helps bring hope and joy to Iowa children when they need it most.”

In partnership with Adventureland Resort, Make-A-Wish Iowa has begun preparation with the serve weather facing our state on Wednesday. The organization will post up-to-date information at  jollyholidaylights.org and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/makeawish.iowa.jollyholidaylights.

Jolly Holiday Lights began 26 years ago by a group of passionate volunteers and has become an Iowa holiday tradition and the organization’s largest fundraiser. This year, Make-A-Wish Iowa is thrilled to continue this event at Adventureland Park.

A Make-A-Wish experience brings positive, lasting change to children who are living with – or even overcoming – a serious illness. Beyond that, a wish experience’s impact can be seen To date, more than 1,000 wishes have been granted because of Jolly Holiday Light’s sponsors, attendees and volunteers.

Tickets are available at jollyholidaylight.org, Des Moines area HyVee stores or the front gate. All pre-purchased tickets are good for any night of the Jolly Holiday Lights season.
