Marcy's wish to have a wish-to-walk experience

Marcy has a complicated medical diagnosis resulting in mobility challenges. For as long as she can remember, she's always had one wish -- to be able to walk. When her wish journey began with Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina, Marcy and her family were unsure where to begin. They talked with their wish granters, thinking through some key questions:
What would Marcy like the most?
Would she be able to travel somewhere?
Could the one thing she’s always wanted ACTUALLY be possible?

After doing a little research mom Sarah discovered Trexo Robotics – a robotics company based in Canada – that creates custom walking robotic units to fit a variety of medical conditions. She thought, “Could it really be possible?”

Sarah shared Marcy’s hope to walk with the Make-A-Wish team along with the discovery of Trexo Robotics and heard the sweetest words yet: “Sure! We can do that!”

Our partners at Trexo Robotics helped design the perfect unit for Marcy's needs. Their team designed a walking unit that tracks activity and usage, helping build up endurance and, in time, independence for its users.

Since her wish was granted, Marcy is setting goals and blowing past them for steps, balance, resistance and more. Her progress with the unit has helped her build strength and confidence, while providing her with independence.

“The other night she was in her Trexo after dinner and it was time to start getting ready for bed,” dad Dustin shares “Marcy made her way over to her sink and started to brush her teeth on her own. That’s never happened before! We always had to hold her up and support her while she tried to brush, but now with the Trexo, she can brush her teeth on her own. It’s amazing”

While at a recent doctor's appointment, Marcy took her 10,000^th step. The office staff and family lined the hallway and Marcy began to walk. 9,995... 9,996... 9,997...you could feel the excitement spread as the crowd counted along.
9,998... 9,999....10,000! Cheers and applause erupted, several people were moved to tears, as a milestone that was thought impossible, was reached. Marcy's wish to walk had come true! 

Today, Marcy enjoys using her Trexo both indoors and out. She loves setting goals and hitting them and is embracing doing things for herself. Her wish has provided her confidence to face the world with her beautiful smile and energetic personality on full display!
