Jayveon and Derrick are brothers who both love to go shopping with their mom. Jayveon and Derrick were diagnosed at young age with cystic fibrosis, which has caused them to be placed on various medications. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder, in which the lungs and the digestive system get clogged with mucus, it cannot be cured. When Make-A-Wish heard about Jayveon and Derrick’s story we knew we wanted to step in to grant them the wish of a lifetime!

Jayveon, Derrick and their family teamed up with the Make-A-Wish wish granters to discuss their interests and what they envision for their wishes. While discussing different wish ideas, the bothers couldn’t stop saying how much they love to shop with their mom. Seeing how excited the two were at the possibility of their wish being granted, the wish granters and their family began working to make it a reality! They knew by granting Jayveon and Derrick’s wishes, this would help them destress and gain motivation to keep their energy levels high

When Jayveon and Derrick’s wish day came, they were jumping up and down in joy. The wish granters had a limo ready to take the brothers on their shopping extravaganza! They started their shopping trip at Walmart where they could have whatever they possibly wanted, then took a mid-day break to have some of their favorite foods at Chick-fil-A! Following lunch, the brothers went right back to shopping “til they drop” at Ross and Target!

Jayveon and Derrick’s wish was to go on a shopping spree, they were given an entire day to buy anything and everything they could want! Thanks to Make-A-Wish, they were able to have their wishes come true. Wishes are more than a fun filled day, they impact the wish kids and their families for years to come. For wish kids like Jayveon and Derrick, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. A wish renews hope, uplifts spirits and encourages the belief in the impossible. Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
