Mateo Delivers Hope

Wish Kid Mateo and UPS Driver Dave

Mateo pictured with his own UPS mentor, local driver Dave! Dave met Mateo on April 21 at Macy's in Stockton where he began to show Mateo the ropes of what it takes to be a delivery person.

Mateo, 6, was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2017 when he was just a toddler after showing signs of bruising, being overly tired and just not himself.

Since then, he's endured years of chemotherapy and a number of serious side effects and is currently doing in-home physical therapy which Mateo is responding to wonderfully!

Of course like many wish children, Mateo and his family have been greatly impacted by the global pandemic, being even more careful than usual with Mateo and his diagnosis.

But what has provided Mateo and his family hope has been their experience with Make-A-Wish! A creative young boy, Mateo had some very interesting wish ideas like camping in the mountains with his family or to have treasure. However, there was a wish that stood out from those for little Mateo.

Mateo wants to deliver packages and mail as he becomes a delivery person! He just loves seeing his mail people and delivery people come by and put surprises in people's mailboxes and doorsteps. His imagination began running wild as he began to think about what his day would look like, from putting on his uniform to even buttering his toast in the morning!
