Myka's wish to meet Patrick Mahomes

Myka's wish to meet Patrick Mahomes!

Wish kid, Myka from Yorba Linda and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes were featured on ESPN’s “My Wish” series, where he granted a wish to 12-year-old Myka.

Myka was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect which required two open heart surgeries while she was still just an infant. Despite the possibility of more surgeries and complications down the line, Myka has been thriving. “I won’t stop,” Myka said. “And I’ll always push myself.”

The Chiefs are Myka’s favorite NFL team. Her brothers played football growing up and she wanted to learn to play as well. Now she quarterbacks her flag football team and has a dream to be the first woman to play in the NFL.

For her wish, Myka wanted to meet her favorite team’s quarterback. KC Wolf traveled all the way to Yorba Linda to surprise the unsuspecting Eilers family with a note telling Myka she’d be traveling to Kansas City to meet Patrick Mahomes!

Just three days later she landed in Kansas City. She visited the team locker room where they surprised her with personalized Chiefs gear before hitting the practice field where she met Patrick Mahomes, Brett Veach and Travis Kelce to play a little ball.

“Don’t take my spot, though,” Mahomes said to Myka. “You can’t throw it too good.”

Mahomes drew up a quick slant that Myka executed to perfection, mimicking Mahomes' cadence before firing a dart to Kelce over the middle. She then followed that up by heaving a deep ball into Kelce's grasp, prompting Mahomes to let out a yell that echoed throughout the building. It wasn't until after Mahomes departed, however, that tears of joy streamed down Myka's face.

"Today has been amazing," Angela, Myka’s mom, said. "It's made her feel so special. Our family just feels welcome and seen. We couldn't have envisioned this in our wildest dreams."

Myka then got a chance to break down some film with Mahomes, including his game-winning touchdown pass to Kelce in the divisional-round playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. She even signed a contract alongside General Manager Brett Veach, who suggested that Myka could be Mahomes' replacement one day.

“How did you feel when you threw the touchdown?” Myka asked.

“I was almost in shock,” Mahomes said. “I just ran to Travis and hugged him. I was just like, ‘Man, I love you. We’ll have this forever.'”

It’s a sentiment shared by Myka after having her day with the Kansas City Cheifs and Patrick Mahomes.

Myka's wish to meet Patrick Mahomes

From a young age, Myka has loved watching football. While enduring grueling hospital stays to treat her congenital heart defect, Myka and her family found refuge from her treatment journey in her favorite football team, The Kansas City Chiefs, and all-star player, Patrick Mahomes. She fantasized about one day meeting the celebrated athlete and even becoming the first female NFL quarterback.
