It’s the holiday season full of joyful spirits, and all five-year-old Travis wants is a perfect Christmas with his family.
T
ravis has a life-threatening brain tumor and just wants a great holiday celebration with his family away from the worry and fear of his condition. This is the point of a Make-A-Wish® experience – to take give hope and joy to a child dealing with challenges of treatments and test results.
Santa hears his Christmas wish and dispatches elves from Make-A-Wish Rhode Island to make Travis’ wish come true.
With a surprise every day, Travis – and all involved – discovers the true meaning of a favorite Christmas carol: The Twelve Days of Christmas.
The first day of his wish experience, Travis finds a big box outside of his front door along with a letter from Santa. Travis opens the box to find a ton of Christmas decorations for his family to deck their home with holiday cheer.
Eleven magical days follow.
The next day Travis receives a camera and film to capture his Christmas memories.
Then instead of three French hens - he gobbles three kinds of Christmas sweets from Mrs. Claus.
For the rest of the week, Travis is showered with favorite Christmas films and a DVD/VCR player, CDs of Christmas music and a CD player, plus a stocking for each member of his family – including his five brothers and sisters.
When it’s time for the 11 pipers, a festively decorated limousine delivers 11 candy canes instead. With the sweets in hand, Travis and his family go for a ride.
The limo drops Travis at the doorstep of none other than Santa’s vacation home on the Rhode Island shore.
The cabin bursts with Christmas che
er – outdoor lights, wreaths, candles, flannel Christmas sheets on the bed and cookies on the table.
Travis and his family trim a beautiful Christmas tree while singing carols and sharing Christmas cookies and hot cocoa – enjoying each other’s company.
On the 12th day of Christmas, Santa finally arrives, toting HO HO HOs and big presents for Travis. The jolly fellow even had a Christmas dinner for the family. Travis’ wish united a family with a memory they will always share – a hopeful Christmas spirit they’ll never forget.
