Jenna felt weightless and free.
She soared over the clusters of buildings and towers, and nearly grazed the waters of the River Thames. An entire civilization stretched out before her as she gazed over London in the city’s largest Ferris wheel. This was her escape – an escape from bone marrow tests and chemotherapy. Jenna soaked in the view of the city she had loved for so long, but had only heard about in stories. She had reached her dream destination – her wish come true.
The Beginning of a Wish Come True
The sights from Jenna’s breathtaking ride on the London Eye reminded her of the stories of her childhood. She would look forward to tales of a city her mother once called home. Mysterious towers, royalty and sprawling courts … she grew older, but these stories still retained their splendor. Jenna knew that one day she would experience London in person. With the help of Make-A-Wish and Monograms, she did.
A Week in London
Jenna and her family had a busy trip. In addition to the London Eye, the group visited Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. When they needed a break from sightseeing, they saw the musical “Billy Elliot” at Victoria’s Palace Theatre. A performance that Jenna highly recommends.
But, Jenna was most thrilled about another opportunity – to catch a live football match in London. She felt united with the crowd through a common sense of passion, given her own status as soccer star back home. She felt that maybe, one day, she could live in London and experience this kind of connection all the time…
Continuing the Journey
Too soon, it was time to head back to the states. For Jenna’s family, the trip was more than just a fun getaway. It helped them create lifelong memories. Memories that would overshadow Jenna’s hectic trips in and out of the hospital. This journey to recovery ended on a positive note for everyone.
With a renewed sense of spirit and determination, Jenna left England – but she knew she would be back.
