He’s a six-foot tall rodent wearing a captain’s hat and filling kids with excitement. He’s Mickey Mouse, of course, and he’s a part of Cade’s wish to go on a Disney Cruise Line® Cruise
Cade, a 10-year-old diagnosed with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy - a criticall illness - was in need of a magical Make-A-Wish® experience to rejuvenate him from his medical treatments.
In a letter to Make-A-Wish his mom says, “At a time when we were coming to grips with this critical illness, we had something to look forward to and be happy about.”
Arriving in Orlando, Captain Mickey – thrilled to share the power of a wish® - greets Cade and his family. Mickey gathers his friends as they each sign Cade’s autograph book and give him plenty of hugs to spread their Disney magic to this young boy in need of some hope.
Not only did the Disney characters treat Cade like royalty, but so did the rest of the ship’s crew. To give them energy for all the fun, Cade and his family received unlimited hamburgers and ice cream. Cade also received special gifts in his room from Dana, a wish representative.
With these amazing treats, Cade takes off to play in the ship’s Youth Activities spaces. But it’s not a cruise adventure without some ocean experience. Cade enjoys a view of the sea from a glass bottom boat while watching the fish swim right beneath his feet.
This was too much. He just had to stick his feet in the waves himself. Cade and his family venture off to the beach where they splash in the waves and curl their toes in the sand – a relaxation utopia.
Cade says, “It was the perfect trip to bring my family together. To finally just have fun and enjoy one another’s company!”
Disney is proud to be a long-time supporter of Make-A-Wish® America and uses its magic to grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses. Over the past 30 years, Disney has supported the Make-A-Wish® mission, contributing more than $7 million in cash and in-kind donations each year. With more than 7,000 wishes granted every year – including visits to the Disney Parks, Disney cruises, meeting Disney characters, attending sporting events and visiting TV and movie sets – Disney- themed wishes continue to be the most popular requests by children to Make-A-Wish.
