Volunteer Spotlight: Betty Evans
With eighteen years of active service with Make-A-Wish, Betty Evans exemplifies a standout volunteer. Betty recently received the Silver Lifetime Achievement Volunteerism Award at this year's Governor's Points of Light Awards, which is considered the highest honor bestowed on a Nevada volunteer.
Betty consistently grants three to five wishes per year, works multiple events, serves as a speaking ambassador, fundraises, and personally donates at a major-gift level. For our wish children facing critical illnesses, she’s a beacon of light. Betty serves most delightedly as a wish-granting volunteer, a role that entails discovering a child’s true wish and revealing this wish to them. To date, she’s granted over 55 wishes.
The joy on the children’s and families' faces when they interact with Betty reflects this. Her attention to detail and creativity when executing wishes sets a high bar for everyone at Make-A-Wish. Betty is one of Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada’s most loyal and longest-serving volunteers. Not a year has gone by without her involvement and support at the chapter in some way.
