Lucas' Wish to Meet Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears

From watching football to playing football, Lucas has always loved everything about it, especially his favorite team the Chicago Bears. As a wide receiver and safety for his high school football team, this 14-year-old knows just how the game is played.

In 2010, Lucas was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which kept him off the field and out of contact sports. However, this didn’t stop him from continuing to watch his favorite team. As soon as he was able to play football, his freshmen year of high school, he chose the jersey number 22 after his all-time favorite Bears player, Matt Forte.

Lucas told volunteers from Make-A-Wish that he wanted to meet Chicago Bears’ running back Matt Forte. He wanted to get some training tips and ask him questions about what it’s like to play in the NFL.  A few months later Lucas was standing face to face with his favorite football player.

Lucas and his family traveled to Chicago and took an unforgettable tour of Solider Field and the Bears practice facility. Lucas got signatures from the entire team and even received a special gift from Matt Forte, his official running back gloves! Knowing that Matt Forte was praying for him made Lucas feel amazing. He couldn’t believe he was finally meeting his favorite football player!

“This was a once in a lifetime experience,” said Lucas’ mother Yvonne, “something our family will remember forever.”

Lucas has been busy since he’s gotten back from his wish, writing thank you notes for the team to let them know how much he appreciates this once in a lifetime experience!
