Imagine your surprise if a lamprey, a scale-less, large-eyed, tube-like creature that looks like an eel, clamped on to your hand. For many, it would be a terrifying experience. For 12-year-old Wyatt, an avid “River Monsters” and Jeremy Wade fan, this was a wish come true and the start to a perfect day.
The behind-the-scenes celebrity experience continued for Wyatt, who was able to watch Jeremy get interviewed by the Huffington Post. He was even able to spend a few minutes interviewing Wade, who, in turn, asked Wyatt a few questions himself. When the interview wrapped up, Wyatt was invited into a screening room to see a few scenes from a lamprey film that was under production. This allowed the video team producing the movie an opportunity to show Wyatt the ins-and-outs of video editing and production.
Later, the “River Monsters’” film crew invited Wyatt to join Jeremy in filming a promotional video for the lamprey movie. Using a green screen and editing software, the team was able to re-create a true “River Monster” experience, complete with fishing, boating and some stuffed-lamprey wrangling.
Surprise Encounters at Animal Planet HQ
While all of this “River Monsters” themed fun was happening at Animal Planet headquarters, another of Wyatt’s favorite Animal Planet stars – Pete Nelson, from “Treehouse Masters” – walked by. Caught off-guard and completely star-struck, Wyatt couldn’t believe that another of his favorite celebrities was so close to him. After seeing his interest in Pete and his show, Animal Planet was able to coordinate a few minutes for Wyatt to meet with the skilled builder and talk about treehouses.
The long but rewarding day was concluded with a full lunch buffet and a spread of Animal Planet, “River Monsters” and “Treehouse Masters” swag for Wyatt to take home and enjoy. Although he wasn’t able to fish that day, Animal Planet provided Wyatt with a tackle box, fishing rod, fisherman’s hat and vest and many other fishing-centric items. That evening, on his limo ride back to the hotel where he was staying, Wyatt confessed that he had just experienced the second-best day of his life only eclipsed by the day he woke up from his liver transplant.
