He just wants to communicate with his family and have the power to express himself. However, 9-year-old Dalton suffers from speech problems due to his neurological condition, in addition to seizures and loss of nerve function.
When Make-A-Wish® volunteers arrive they discuss with the family the possibility of a speech device that would allow him to communicate.
Thanks to wish sponsors and donors, Dalton receives a touch screen device with pictures and words. He can select what he wants to say and the device verbalizes it for him – thank you, please, I love you – to name a few.
Dalton and his family are overjoyed as they get used to all the things he can now say to them.
“There are no words to explain what it means,” says Dalton’s mom. “It’s going to change our lives … it has already in the two weeks he’s had it.”
While Dalton works closely with his speech therapist to fully master his device, he enjoys asking for books, games and his Shania Twain CDs. Dalton’s wish gives him more control over his life.
“It’s a dream come true. Isn’t it, baby?” His mom says.
