When Wendy, an ordinarily energetic child, began feeling tired and listless her parents knew something was wrong.
Her doctor confirmed their worst suspicions, leukemia. Through a course of chemotherapy and other treatments, this young girl dreamed of a tropical Hawaiian vacation to just rest on the beach.
With the help of Make-A-Wish® volunteers and sponsors, Wendy was on her way to paradise.
At a hotel near the Pacific Ocean, Wendy and her family enjoy the sights and sounds of the waves. They curl their feet in the sand and swim in the ocean - away from the fear of Wendy’s condition. This wish kid not only has time to simply draw flowers and paint sunsets, but she also has the opportunity to go whale watching, snorkeling and dancing in a Hawaiian luau.
On her return home, rejuvenated Wendy shares all the pictures she painted capturing scenes of her wonderful vacation.
A wish experience – spreading not only joy, but hope and strength to a child – is a turning point a child’s fight to overcome a life-threatening condition.
