“Sophia and her family can open a new chapter in life. ”

Devin calls it a perfect end to a year that began with every parent’s worst fear – his daughter Sophia was diagnosed with a tumor behind her eye. Today, there’s no sign of the tumor. Sophia and her family can open a new chapter in life. Everything is back to normal.

Wait … things are even better than normal because of her Make-A-Wish® experience.  Sophia wished to go visit the The Weather Channel.

Every morning, Sophia listens to weather broadcasts on the radio. Every type of weather phenomenon, from heat waves to blizzards, is a wonder to her. She wants to be a meteorologist one day.

Sophia had just one true wish in her forecast – the chance to see all the behind-the-scenes action.

The Weather Channel Rolls Out a Welcome

Sophia at The Weather ChannelSophia’s arrival brings a 100-percent chance of excitement to The Weather Channel studio in Atlanta. Within moments, she’s on a behind-the-scenes tour with the stars she sees on TV every day! Sophia sees her name everywhere – on “welcome” signs posted around the studio, even on the t-shirts of smiling staff members who welcome her to their world.

Sophia learns how the weather broadcasts take shape. Meteorologists teach her to make weather maps, and she even takes a turn in the director’s chair.

But a bigger highlight awaits … something she didn’t expect. Sophia is going on camera.

Over to You, Sophia

The countdown begins. The cameras and mics go live. SophWish kid Sophia in the makeup chairia’s image appears on TV sets across the nation.

On The Morning Rush, she delivers the first live weather forecast of her life. She wraps it with the expected high temperature in Chicago before wrapping with a pitch-perfect “Mike, over to you.”

There’s no longer a cloud hanging over Sophia’s future. She and her parents are optimistic. Her wish is more than a day of fun – it’s inspiration for her future. It’s a sign of things that could come with hard work. And it’s a chance for Devin to see his daughter’s verve and determination reach a new level.

“After going through a year of – for lack of a better word – torture,” he says during a televised interview, “this is a great ending to the story.”
