Learn how one wish transforms lives

Discovering Hope in a Wish

Shore had cancer. As her mom Jazmin heard the diagnosis, all her hopes and dreams for her daughter grew hazy. Her seemingly healthy 8-year-old was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, one of the fastest growing cancers. She knew Shore would face a difficult battle that most children her age don’t have to struggle with.

Shore always loved adventure and hoped one day to see snow for the first time. The possibility, however, paled in comparison to her current reality of radiation treatments and chemotherapy.

In the heaviness of the family’s worry, doubt and hardship – little did they know that Shore’s one wish would provide them the hope and the encouragement they needed to fight her cancer.

When the community heard about Shore’s wish, volunteers and wish granters came together to make it come true. Jazmin said when her daughter heard the news, it became a warm light that eased her family’s worries and marked a new chapter in Shore’s life. To mark the event, Shore’s family shaved their heads, letting world know they would get through this together.

“It was a healing moment for us as a family to be able to use cancer as a way to experience positive things,” said Jazmin. “Thanks to Make-A-Wish, Shore was given wings in the form of a wish … it’s amazing now to see her fly.”

We have a simple, yet important, mission: to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. And, it’s through the generous support of donors like you who see the impact wishes have on children and their families that drives our mission forward.

Wishes remind children like Shore that we cherish them – we stand with them, as they fight for the chance to grow up. Wishes bring families closer together and spark hope for a better future. For Shore, her wish signaled a new beginning.
