Kenny has never seen snow. Growing up in Maui, Kenny is a long way from the snow-covered slopes of the High Sierras. There’s an unexpected change that awaits him though: Kenny will soon experience his winter wonderland.
Because of his medical condition, Kenny’s wish will signal the true start of hope … and a moment in time he and his family will cherish forever. For a boy who has never seen snow before, a trip to Tahoe during the winter will be the experience of a lifetime.
Local chapter friends at Incline Village had a long list of exciting activities lined up for Kenny and his family.
Imagine Kenny’s rush of excitement when he and his family arrived at Tahoe and walk along the endless blankets of snow for the first time. Kenny learned to ski at the newly renovated Diamond Peak Ski Resort. And he learned the art of making giant snowballs.
This is what Kenny has dreamed about for an entire lifetime, and he enjoyed every blast of cold wind, every spray of powdery snow and every cup of hot chocolate.
But, this is also freedom – freedom from having cancer to a whole new lease of life.
The entire family felt relieved to place their worries aside. From the breathtaking views to the stunning amenities, the hotel provided Kenny and his family with the perfect place to relax between their snow activities.
Renewed by the wish, Kenny’s parents wrote to Make-A-Wish after their trip.
“Word cannot express the gratitude that we have for you. You have made Kenny’s wish to see snow an unforgettable experience that will forever be cherished in our hearts. You have given Kenny, along with all of us, the drive to stay healthy, active and always keep your head up,” Kenny’s parents wrote.
For Kenny’s family, the trip is more than a pleasant vacation. They have left with a positive perspective and “cool,” new, memories to share for years to come.
And, Kenny is determined that someday, one day he will get to visit Lake Tahoe again, only this time, cancer-free.
