Hugo's safari adventure

Hugo goes on a safari adventure

“They welcomed joy back to their lives.”

A lion’s roar echoes through the night. Inside his tent, Hugo listens. One by one, the rest of the pride responds. Is Hugo afraid? No. He is ecstatic.

This is adventure. This is elation. This is Namibia

Hugo’s journey began with a diagnosis of leukemia. He fought through it, rallied by the promise of a Make-A-Wish® experience … a wildlife-watching safari in Africa.

Make-A-Wish volunteers created an experience that could change Hugo’s life. They arranged expeditions with expert guides. They spared no detail, left nothing to chance.

But it’s up to Hugo to make the most of his 10-day voyage. And he does, from the moment he receives his boarding pass for 20 hours of intercontinental travel. He discovers the rush of sand boarding down the towering dunes of the Namib Desert. He bonds witHugo goes on a safari adventureh a cheetah at a wildlife preserve. His camera captures the sights of the Skeleton Coast and its wild elephants, giraffes and rhinos.

When Hugo returns to his home in New York, he is a different person. He’s a traveler – inquisitive and optimistic.

His trip was a celebration. Hugo and his family said good-bye to his worries about leukemia. They welcomed joy back to their lives.

That’s the true power of a Make-A-Wish experience.

WOW! What a great wish! It is so good that Hugo and his family could have a break from the rigors of his healthcare and illness. It's not easy for any child or family to go through such a thing, and I say this from experience. The best thing any family can do is stay very optimistic and stick together, because it's a long hard road to recovery and you all have to travel it together. Good Luck Hugo & Family! I am glad you all had a good time!

You are my inspiration! My 12 year old daughter has AML. I am glad you got your wish. Kelly has a cat too, but not as big as the one you are petting in the picture.

That is amazing! Our little boy has just been granted acceptance for a wish, deciding what he wants to do…He LOVES giraffes. There is a Giraffe Manor in Africa where they are everywhere… thinking he'll want to ask a trip there! ;)
