Grace's fairytale

Grace wished to be in her own fairy tale

“And she steps far away from the medical treatments and stress that dominate her life.”

Jeanette never expected that a Make-A-Wish® experience could do so much. Today, she watches her daughter, Grace, transform as her wish comes true. Grace lives her wish to be the star of own fairytale. And she steps far away from the medical treatments and stress that dominate her life.

As Grace’s wish granters lead her through Seattle – to landmarks like the Space Needle and Seattle Children’s Theater – Jeanette sees people who care at their best. Dozens of people lent their abilities and worked hard to prepare for this day. They even included Grace; her lively imagination was their guide in making the perfect modern fairy tale experience. All their generosity lets Grace put her worries aside … and lets her family connect with each other and their community. It’s a remarkable change from the isolation of helping Grace live her condition.

Wish granters enlisted local actors to craft a fairytale based on the children’s book Goodnight Moon. And Grace becomes part of the cast, along with her own added characters like the “red space giraffe.”

Grace’s fairytale day came to a close at a Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant in Bellevue. The entire staff wore fairytale-themed hats for their guest of honor.

Jeanette sheds tears several times as she sees how enthralled Grace is during her wish.

A wish is a powerful thing ... I completely underestimated it.”
