“ I'm just so happy they did this. ”

- Amina

More than anything in the world, Amina loves to cook. When she talks about the fond memories she has of cooking for and with her family, an infectious smile spreads across her face. The happy feeling that Amina attributes to cooking is not only sweet, but incredibly meaningful, too, given her story.

In March of 2012, Amina was diagnosed with leukemia, and has undergone numerous medical tests and treatments over the past three years. Therefore, it is no surprise that Amina cherishes the good times – the times spent in the kitchen, doing something she loves.

It was also no surprise when Amina shared her most heartfelt wish: to be a real chef! To turn Amina’s wish into reality, Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire teamed up with Thermador. Together, with the help of volunteers, the Thermador Pro Kitchen at Thermador Event & Design Center was transformed into “Amina’s Café,” fully equipped with top-of-the-line kitchen appliances, cooking utensils and products, and of course, food.

Under the impression that she would be spending the day cooking with her parents, Amina arrived for the grand opening of her café. She was completely surprised with a personalized chef’s coat and hat, a cookbook with her own recipes in it, and a room full of her family and friends whom she would be cooking up a delicious meal for.

Amina had the time of her life cooking her favorite food, phyllo-spun shrimp, in the “Top Chef” worthy kitchen that she had only dreamed of while thinking up culinary masterpieces in her play kitchen at home. “First I put avocado, a little bit, and then I sided it…” Amina proclaimed, explaining how she gets her signature dish just right. After serving the perfectly prepared meal to her guests, Amina sat down to sign copies of her cookbook. “I’m just so happy they did this”, she exclaimed, with a wide smile and sparkling eyes. In that moment, she realized her most heartfelt wish – the one thing she wanted more than anything in the world – had come true. She was Chef Amina.
