My Make-A-Wish Anniversary

Lindsay and Veronica during her treatment
My two-year anniversary at Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington falls right around Thanksgiving. Inevitably, this milestone makes me reflect on how thankful I am to be part of an organization I care so much about. Because my journey with Make-A-Wish actually began more than 10 years ago, when my friend Veronica was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. We were both in seventh grade.

Frosty Friday – 3 Winter Wishes

Kody winter wish
Winter is coming. For Make-A-Wish kids, there’s more joy in those words than you’ll ever get out of those gloomy Starks from A Game of Thrones.

Papa Roach Steps up for Mark's Rock Star Wish

Mark, Papa Roach, rock star experience
Music has power that’s hard to explain. There’s something in a chord progression or a drum fill that can turn a person’s mood. Sometimes, the notes just settle into the mind and take root. The lyrics connect the listener and the artist, even if they never meet.

Doing Good When Nobody is Watching

Some of my favorite moments of working for Make-A-Wish come from chance encounters. I'll meet people, they'll learn that I work for Make-A-Wish … and then the entire conversation changes.

Wish Wednesday – Nessie’s Year of Triumph

Every day, I get a few messages in my inbox about media coverage of wishes. Most of the stories are about Make-A-Wish kids whose wishes have just come true. Today, I found something a little different – a triumphant look at 8-year-old Nessie celebrating one year of remission from lymphoblastic lymphoma.

Wish Wednesday - Wishes on the Farm

Jordan's lawnmower wish
Even after nearly eight years at Make-A-Wish, the kids we serve still have ways of surprising me. Most of the time, it’s when I hear about an unusual wish that a chapter granted. This week, a wish to have a chicken coop is the cause of my “did I really just read that?” moment. Read more ...
