Random Wish Kid Photo: Braxton's Last Day of Chemo

Braxton Wish Kid
Every so often, I come across a photo of a wish kid that makes me re-consider my perspective on the wish granting process and what it means to be involved with Make-A-Wish. In this picture, wish kid Braxton smiles about a significant milestone in his 6 years of life. He's gotten through chemotherapy and is about to go on a wish trip to his favorite theme park. But there is always more to the story.

What I wonder is what we don't see from the photo. The parents and siblings who have supported him throughout his illness in so many little ways, from driving him to the hospital to simply keeping him company. The doctors, nurses and social workers who have stood by him during treatment and any setbacks or successes along the way. The volunteers who asked him to decide what he would consider his one true wish. All of these people make up the complex universe of hard work and persistence that can get a child to this courageous photograph. Braxton and his supporters are the background story to a collection of colored pixels.
