Southwest Airlines did an absolutely amazing job of taking care of us! From the minute we stepped into the airport until the minute we stepped off the plane. We were greeted, assisted, entertained, provided for, and spoiled in ways we could never have dreamed of. We had our own personal assistant assigned to us for our time in the Phoenix airport and she was fantastic, playing with the boys, directing me to breakfast venues, and providing a gift for each of our boys. She was with us all the way onto the plane and she didn’t leave until we were all situated and connected with flight attendants who picked up right where she left off!
Daniel had the privilege of sitting with the pilots and seeing their view, and of course all the boys loved the attentive beverage service and snacks. There was one particular flight attendant who treated us like royalty – she doted on us the entire flight and then at the end she introduced our family over the loud speaker, explaining Daniel’s situation and our family’s trip. She then presented each of our sons with a “crown” made of airline snacks and cocktail skewers. I had never seen anything like it – and you should have seen their grins!
When I asked Daniel to elaborate on what he liked so much about “flying there,”he said two things: “being in an airplane” (his first time!) and “getting celebrated!”
It’s difficult as a parent to express my gratitude for your understanding and generosity during a season as difficult as childhood cancer. There simply aren’t any words! All I can say is thank you SO much, Southwest Airlines! You went above and beyond the call of duty and the result for our family was priceless. It was a tremendous blessing that, in spite of this awful leukemia, Daniel and our entire family were given the incredible opportunity – not just to go on vacation, but to be cared about, provided for, lavished on, and, in the words of our little warrior, “get celebrated” all along the way.
