Random Wish Kid Photo - Gavin Soars Over New Zealand

Gavin soars over New Zealand during his Make-A-Wish experience.
There’s nothing like looking down at the ground from 20,000 feet to gain a little perspective. Except, maybe, hearing a story about a kid’s wish coming true.

Eleven-year-old Gavin’s story combines both: He wished to go soaring in New Zealand. Between the scenery and the can-do Kiwi spirit, I can’t imagine a better place for Gavin to rediscover his optimism and experience his vision of life at its best.

Make-A-Wish Vermont has a recap of Gavin’s experience – which included not just straight-and-level gliding, but the rush of aerobatics. He even got to take the controls.

''This wish is so many things that I've missed out on since becoming sick,” Gavin told a newspaper in New Zealand. “It's not even been possible to go to school. I always knew that traveling to a far off amazing place and to do something you could only do there would be my wish.”

Gavin’s words remind of the high-altitude perspective of why we grant wishes … because wishes can restore to a kid’s life what their medical condition can take away.
