As a guy who loves his music gear, I can imagine how excited the bidders are about the idea of winning the auction. Helping grant wishes just adds an extra coat of cool factor, doesn’t it?
When I first heard about the auction, I had just one thought: How in the world did we make this happen?
As it turns out, our friends at Pearl Corporation and the National Football League had a great idea – auction off two kits used during the most-watched halftime show in the world, and put the funds raised toward doing something good. Each Pearl kit is a Custom Built “Limited Edition” Series with Sabian cymbals; one is decorated in NFC team logos, and the other with AFC logos. So it’s a winner for drummers who love their football.
Pearl has helped us grant drum wishes, including Ben’s wish. And we’ve had the NFL by our side since helping grant our first Super Bowl wish back in 1982.
To me, it’s very exciting that Pearl and the NFL chose us. There are many worthy charities in the Unites States. But two organizations that have already helped us so much chose us from all the rest. That tells us that they believe in what we do – and that their support does something meaningful for the kids we serve.
Right now, more than 75 bidders have driven the prices for the kits to $9,025 (NFC kit) and $12,525 (AFC kit). You can also bid on the Super Bowl XLVIII-logoed drumsticks Chad Smith will use for rehearsal and for the performance.
