Make-A-Wish Illinois and NBC Chicago team up to raise frequent flier miles needed to grant wishes to local children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Throughout the day, viewers and Make-A-Wish supporters are urged to donate their frequent flier miles from American, Delta United and US Airways to Make-A-Wish Illinois. Miles can be donated online at nbcchicago.com
This year, Make-A-Wish Illinois will grant more than 700 wishes to kids in Illinois and 70 percent of those wishes involve travel. As travel costs rise and with so many wishes involving travel – to a dream destination or to meet a celebrity – many more miles are needed to provide travel for wish children and their families each year.
Wishes can be a turning point in a child’s battle against illness and help children feel stronger, more energetic and more willing and able to comply with treatment protocols. Additionally, wishes empower children to take control over an aspect of their lives while helping them feel less isolated and more self-confident and reminding them that someone cares.
