On behalf of Make-A-Wish Iowa, I’m sorry to report that today we are closing Jolly Holiday Lights for the season. Sustained large rain falls has caused rivers to rise and flood waters are threatening Des Moines Water Works Park, as well as the roads near it. Rivers are expected to crest above flood stage this week.
This decision is not made without plenty of care, as Jolly Holiday Lights is Make-A-Wish® Iowa’s largest fundraising event, having raised enough money to cover about forty wishes last year. However, the safety of our guests, volunteers and staff must be kept at the forefront.
If you have pre-purchased a ticket for the event and would like a refund, we intend to honor that request. You may contact our offices after 8:30 on Monday at (515) 334-2636.
The challenges we’re facing today are difficult, but they don’t compare with the challenges our wish families face on a day to day basis as they deal with children living with a life-threatening medical condition. With the event closing, they need your support more than ever. In the interest of our wish kids, we ask that you consider supporting Make-A-Wish Iowa in the future and join together in the continued success of granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions in Iowa. Donations can be made on-line at iowa.wish.org.Together, we can continue granting a wish every other day in our state.
