For as long as he can remember, 8-year-old Cody has followed baseball. An avid fan and a veteran of the little league circuit, Cody dreams of someday playing Major League Baseball like his favorite player, New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza.
After arriving in New York, Cody and his family spent time sightseeing in the city that never sleeps. When the time came for Cody to meet Piazza, a limousine took Cody and his family over to Shea Stadium in time for batting practice. Piazza and the Mets were preparing to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cody sat and patiently watched from the dugout and waited for his chance to meet the Mets catcher.
Finally, Piazza came over to the dugout where Cody and his family sat, only to find Cody nearly speechless with awe. He could barely say hello as he stood in front of his all-time favorite player. Piazza chatted with Cody and his family and gave Cody a bag of New York Mets memorabilia, including a genuine Mets jersey.
But the best part of the day for Cody was when Piazza went to get the bat he had used in batting practice. After signing the bat, he presented it to his new young friend. It was the perfect souvenir to top off an amazing visit.
After the meeting ended, Cody was able to relax with his new souvenirs and watch the Mets defeat the Pirates, no doubt picturing himself out on the field with Mike one day.
