Fifteen-year-old Christopher has two passions – computers and movies. To the teen, they go hand-in-hand. He has been working to create a movie review Web site, but he ran into problems with the aging computer he had at home.
Due to his life-threatening medical condition, Christopher qualified for a wish with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Ohio and Kentucky. The timing came as he was trying to put together his Web site, so he told wish granters with the chapter he would like a new computer. Since he also plans to write and direct films one day, Christopher expanded his wish to include computer equipment to make movies. The visionary teen displayed so much knowledge and detail about the equipment he wanted that wish granters decided to let him build his own computer system with editing capabilities.
With sponsorship from UAW-GM and arrangements by the Greater Ohio and Kentucky chapter, PC On Call came to Christopher’s home with the company’s “rolling lab.” The aspiring filmmaker handpicked the equipment he wanted, including a 17-inch monitor, DVD-ROM, joystick, software, Internet keyboard, digital cybercam, digital camera, scanner, 3-piece speaker system, and printer. It took Christopher and Make-A-Wish® volunteers more than four hours to set up the system. In addition to the new hardware and software, Christopher also received a new desk to hold it all and was treated to a celebration dinner at his favorite Italian restaurant.
With Christopher’s favorite movies being “Godzilla” and “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” keep an eye on this bright boy to use his wish to put his mark on the sci-fi genre.
