Six-year-old Shelby gracefully walked the red carpet with only inches of velvet rope separating her from her 1,300 autograph-seeking, poster-waving fans. She was minutes away from the world premiere of her brand new,
gripping 60-second public service announcement. She strolled toward her director’s chair and granted an interview to a local media personality who had been eagerly awaiting her arrival. Then – for the first time – the young ingénue watched her commercial acting debut.
Energized by the delightful finished product, the precocious youngster appeased her fans by autographing glossy promotional photos of herself. These fans were enthusiastic Chi Omega collegiates and alumnae gathered on the opening night of Chi Omega Convention 2004 in San Antonio, Texas, to cheer on Shelby as she fulfilled the final phase of her wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & South Texas.
Months earlier, the budding actress had asked wish granters to make her a star in a commercial. With sponsorship from the University of Texas at Austin’s Iota chapter of Chi Omega and production assistance from News 9 San Antonio, Shelby shot a Make-A-Wish® public service announcement (PSA) featuring two other wish kids.
Women’s fraternal organization Chi Omega was celebrating two major philanthropic milestones that night as well – raising more than $1 million in three years for Make-A-Wish kids and volunteering more than 30,000 hours nationwide on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Chi Omega is commemorating these milestones with the release of Shelby’s PSA.
Shelby’s publicist and representatives of Chi Omega said that the star was thrilled to share the power of a wish®. Sixty-second and 30-second copies of “Shelby’s Wish” are available for media use through the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America.
