For her Make-A-Wish® experience, 7-year-old Robyn set her sights on Walt Disney World®, and UAW-GM helped her get there. The young bundle of energy asked wish granters from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Michigan to send her to the world-famous theme park in Orlando, Fla. When a local GM dealership in Grand Rapids, Mich., found out about the wish, it decided to get involved too.
As a wish enhancement, the dealership's employees sent postcards and a camera for Robyn's trip. The girl's dad, Robert, laughed when he offered his thanks for the gesture. "The cards and gift were very appreciated, and she has been reading and enjoying them. She's been having a problem reading some of them though, because she can't read cursive."
With sponsorship from UAW-GM, Robyn and her family traveled to the Sunshine State for a wet, but exhilarating, wish experience. Robert explained that it rained the whole time, "but it didn't stop us from having fun and doing everything." He added that his daughter was thrilled to be there.
After exploring Walt Disney World, the family visited SeaWorld, much to the delight of Robyn. But the youngster's favorite part of the trip was eating breakfast with the Disney princesses in a castle.
Looking back, Robert had high praise for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, saying, "We were really enjoying ourselves. We didn't have to worry about anything. If we went to Disney on our own, we wouldn't have had all the wonderful perks and luxuries that we had as a result of Make-A-Wish."
