Chief Executive Officer

Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas – Irving, TX

Posting Date: October 27, 2009 –  Closing Date: Until filled

Headquartered at the “Wishing Place” in Irving (just outside of Dallas) the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas serves 106 Texas counties through four regional offices with 20 staff and thousands of volunteers. The North Texas Chapter stretches from the Texas border with Arkansas all the way to El Paso; it is one of the largest chapters in the United States, by budget as well as the number of wishes granted. The Chapter is in solid financial shape, with mortgage debt less than $600,000 and cash and marketable investments in excess of $1 million. The Organization’s budget for FY2010 (year ending August 31, 2011) is $4.5 million.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas is governed by a 21-person Board of Directors with representatives from across the State. The Board embraces its role in fundraising as 100% of its members participate. Three North Texas Board members have been invited to join the national Board (two currently serve on the parent organization’s Board). There are regional fundraising Boards supporting the regional offices in Midland, Fort Worth and Tyler. Each year Make-A-Wish of North Texas hosts a signature fundraising event, Wish Night. The 14th annual event is scheduled for May 10, 2010, and is budgeted to net approximately $700,000 (in an earlier year this notable evening raised one million dollars).

The Organization adopted a strategic plan covering the fiscal years 2009 through 2013, and updated it earlier this year. Central to the plan is a commitment to growth involving identifying more eligible children and then granting more wishes. Currently the Chapter estimates its “market penetration” is about 45% of children in the region diagnosed with the life-threatening medical condition; the plan sets the goal of reaching 70% penetration by FY2013.

Principal responsibilities for the CEO include enterprise leadership as well as launching and building revenue generating initiatives to accelerate growth. The successful candidate will be expected to provide financial stewardship and continued strengthening of the volunteer base. North Texas MAW seeks a growth oriented ED/CEO with strong development, strategy and community relations skills, and a demonstrated passion for the mission of this exceptional brand.
