PHOENIX - (October 31, 2011) – The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America has named Carla Vernón, director of kid cereals for General Mills, Inc., to its national board of directors.
In her role with General Mills, one of the largest food companies in the world, Vernón oversees the company’s $1 billion portfolio of children’s cereal brands including Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix and Trix. Since starting at General Mills in 1998, Vernón has developed and marketed brands such as Fruit Gushers, Honey Nut Cheerios and several other General Mills products.
Prior to joining General Mills, Vernón worked for City Year, The Nature Conservancy, and U.S. Senator Carol Moseley-Braun. Vernón also has experience working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota.

Vernón earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin. She currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband Jason and their son and daughter.
Vernón will serve a three-year term on the Make-A-Wish® national board.
